Hi there, I’m Heather Asher, a Licensed Master of Social Work. I have been a mental health professional since 2008 - I understand that starting therapy often seems intimidating. I aim to create a positive therapeutic environment where clients can feel safe, welcome, valued, and heard from their first step through my door. . Everyone has a unique story and should be recognized for more than just the challenges they face. I help clients explore, process, and tell their story, bringing them a sense of ownership and freedom.

My own personal experiences with grief and loss have shaped me into a more effective clinician as I pursued healing.  My approach to therapy is authentic, compassionate, and collaborative. I consider the client as a whole person: heart, mind, body, and soul. I most often implement Integrative Therapy, utilizing a variety of evidence-based therapies and methods, including Christian Counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused – CBT, person – centered, solution – focused, Family Systems, narrative, and somatic therapies. I am passionate about helping children, adolescents, young adults, individuals, couples, and families find hope and healing. My areas of specialization include grief and loss, trauma, life transitions, depression, anxiety, marriage, family or relationship conflict.

As a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, I often learn new, researched tools, techniques and information I incorporate into my practice. No matter what a client’s spiritual background may be, my primary goal is to help all clients break free from pain, grief, and fear so they can experience lasting peace and renewed purpose, build resiliency, and discover who they are meant to be. Whether you’re seeking Christian counseling or simply a therapist who will meet you with empathy and genuine care, I would be honored to walk alongside you in your healing journey.

One of the things I enjoy so much about being a therapist is incorporating my interests in my practice. I love being creative and expressing myself through art and writing and will often encourage clients to do the same. Music and singing brings me joy and I have recently been learning to play the piano. I am proud to say that I am a Swiftie! I am passionate about the running team I have been with since 2018. We raise awareness and funds to end human trafficking in Metro – Detroit. Putting in effort to return freedom to those who it was stolen from fits well with my passion for encouraging positive mental health and helping people find freedom from grief and pain.
